Tourism Thunder Bay and Thunder Bay CEDC are currently accepting applications for consideration for positions on the Tourism Investment Committee (TIC).

An Ad Hoc Committee has been established to develop the inaugural TIC membership and structure. Submitted applications will be evaluated by members of the Ad-Hoc Committee. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by the committee and recommendations made by the committee will be presented to the CEDC board for approval on November 28, 2018. 


 

Tourism Investment Committee

The Tourism Investment Committee (TIC) will provide transparent, evidence-based, strategic direction to Tourism Thunder Bay in the delivery of programs funded through the Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT).

Strategic direction and investments will grow the tourism economy of the community by supporting initiatives that align with one or more of Tourism Thunder Bay’s strategic objectives which include but are not limited to:

  • Develop, improve and expand visitor experiences
  • Increase number of new visitors to city and region
  • Increase return visitation
  • Increase length of stay
  • Increase economic yield per visitor
  • Foster a culture of service excellence
  • Support an exceptional tourism workforce
  • Develop a community pride of place

Tourism Investment Committee Composition

In June 2018, Thunder Bay CEDC, Tourism Thunder Bay, City of Thunder Bay Corporate Strategic Services, the Thunder Bay Hotel Association, and Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce, as members of the MAT partnership, proposed a 9 member (7 voting members + 2 Ex-Officio) TIC made up as follows:

VOTING

  • 2 members from the accommodation sector as presented by the Thunder Bay Hotel Association
  • 1 member presented by the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce
  • 4 members by direct application to CEDC representing:
    • 1 - Attractions
    • 1 - Events
    • 1 - Skills-based – financial, legal, or accounting sectors preferred
    • 1 - CEDC community-appointed Board member

Ex Officio

  • CEDC CEO
  • Tourism Manager or designate

 Committee Terms

Inaugural Committee members will be assigned split terms of one and two years to ensure subsequent committees balance experience and forward momentum with opportunities for other tourism industry leaders to contribute. 

  • 4 members to 2 year term
  • 3 members to 1 year term

The Ad Hoc committee will make recommendations on which candidates will fulfill one year and two year terms based on evaluation criteria including candidates past board and committee experience.
