Thunder Bay is known around the world as a hockey town. We are the birthplace of more professional players per capita than any other city and we have a history of producing champions.

Visit the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame to learn more about our hockey history.

Catch a game

Head to the Fort William Gardens and cheer on the home teams. The Lakehead Thunderwolves and the Thunder Bay North Stars both call the arena home.

Find a rink

Lace up your skates, grab a stick and hit one of the city's many outdoor rinks to play a game. Most outdoor rinks allow hockey with one notable exception: the pond rink at Prince Arthur's Landing which is skating only.

Championships and tournaments

The city hosts many regional, national and international hockey tournaments and championships each year.

The next major tournament on deck is the 2019 Telus Cup - the Canadian National Midget Championship. This National tournament features the most-talented, young players from across the country and was last held in Thunder Bay in 1988.
