In the summer months, the City of Thunder Bay operates a number of outdoor pools, supervised beaches and splash pads to cool off in.

There are also numerous public beaches nearby including Wild Goose Beach (in Shuniah) east of the city and Sandy Beach (Chippewa Park) south of the city.
