Thunder Bay is one of the world’s newest discovery cruise ship ports of call.
Residing upon the Traditional Territory of the Anishnawbe Peoples of Fort William First Nation, Thunder Bay has a long and deep connection to the natural environment around it. The largest city on the largest freshwater lake on earth, the city is adjacent to the world’s largest contiguous boreal forest with a history of human connection to the land, air and water dating thousands of years.
We’re known for spectacular natural landscapes, with our eclectic urban cultural and culinary experiences woven in to create memorable experiences for cruise guests. Whether for a day stop or a turnaround port, you’ll want to stay for a few days prior to or after completing your cruise here.
Thunder Bay is also the gateway port to the north shore of Lake Superior, one of the world’s newest expedition and discovery destinations. Explore the archipelago’s hundreds of islands, pictographs, wildlife, Indigenous cultural experiences and striking geology of the area. If your cruise ship has submersibles, you can slip beneath the waves to check out some shipwrecks too!

Pool 6 Cruise Terminal
Named for the former grain terminal that operated on the site from 1911 to the early 1990s, this was once the world’s largest grain storage capacity terminal. Today, it’s one of the Great Lakes most functional secure cruise ship facilities that can handle any cruise vessel needs.
